Hawaii loves Reggae! Island Reggae Volume 1, a 15 track compilation of Hawaiian style reggae rhythms by well known artists Ho’aikane, Bruddah Norm, Sean Na’auao, Robi Kahakalau, Justin Young, BET, Damon Williams, Ka’ala Boys, and talented up and comers, personifies the feel-good vibes of the islands. From the rootsy sounds of “Keep on Movin’,” and “Jockey Move” to the lovers’ rock rhythms of Hawaii’s hits “If It Ain’t Real Love,” “Easy Feeling” and “Leaving on a Jet Plane,” these songs will put a bounce in your step, and have you feeling irie
With just the right rhythmic beat for Hawaii’s laid back lifestyle, reggae music has been immensely popular in the islands since the nineteen eighties. Over the years, Islanders, raised on reggae, Hawaiian and island contemporary music began to creatively combine all these different styles, while adding indigenous elements, and Island Reggae or Hawaiian Reggae was born. Today, with the support of several local radio stations dedicated to reggae rhythms, there is a plethora of established stars and a continuous flow of new innovative artists who are making a welcome entrance to Hawaii’s Island Reggae music scene. Helping to spread the Island Reggae fever are vacationers and short term residents (special mahalo to the USA military) whose excitement for the “feel good” reggae music stays with them long after they say aloha.
